The Pancake Breakfast

The West Moberly First Nations will be hosting a pancake breakfast for all paddlers and supporters.  Everyone is welcome! Breakfast will be served from 9-11:30 am at Bear Flat, off Highway 29.

For Non-paddlers

If you would like to participate, but feel a five hour paddle is too long, please come and join us for the morning’s activities at Bear Flat.

The West Moberly First Nations will have a number of tepees set up,  we will have games and face painting for children; people are encouraged to bring musical instruments for an informal jam session, and you can just enjoy a Saturday morning in the beautiful Peace River valley.

In the late afternoon, spectators can go to the lookout at the south end of 100th Street in Fort St. John to watch as the flotilla arrives at the Old Fort takeout site.

The Paddle

The 2009 Paddle for the Peace will be launched at Bear Flat along Highway 29 (last year’s takeout site), with participants travelling downstream past the mouth of the Moberly River and the proposed dam site, to take out at the historic community of Old Fort. The City of Fort St. John has graciously allowed us to use their river-side property at the Old Fort.

This year’s Paddle will take approximately five hours on the river, so participants must remember to bring snacks, water, sunscreen, rain gear, etc.

A shuttle bus will transport paddlers back to their vehicles at the Bear Flat launch.

If you would like to participate, but do not have a canoe, bring a life jacket and gear along and let us know at the registration desk.  We will try to find an empty spot in a canoe for you. you can also post on the canoe swap to find a paddling partner or canoe ahead of time.  This worked very well last year.

2009 Paddle for the Peace T-shirts will be available for sale at the launch site for $20.  Watch for our new logo on this year’s t-shirt.
