Want to celebrate the Peace River Saturday July 9, 2011?
Update: July 8, 8:00 a.m.
Given the heavy rainfall warning for the Peace region, the Peace Valley
Environment Association and West Moberly First Nation would like to spread
the word on changes in the plan for Saturday’s Sixth Annual Paddle for the Peace. The
safety of all participants and spectators is our highest priority.
We have made a final decision to proceed with the celebration but to NOT put any watercraft on the river - breakfast, music, and games (three-legged races, sackraces, etc.) at Bear Flat Campground on Highway 29, near Cache Creek bridge. Who knows – if enough people throw their ball gloves in, we could have an impromptu slow-pitch game.
Ken and Arlene Boon will also give tours of their new solar panels which are connected to the BC Hydro grid — it is worth the trip to Bear Flat just to watch their hydro metre spin backwards. We encourage people to come out rain or shine.

The Paddle
Update: July 8, 2011 The watercraft portion of the paddle is cancelled.
The 2011 Paddle for the Peace will be launched at the Halfway River bridge along Highway 29, with participants travelling downstream to Bear Flat. The take-out site will be just downstream of the mouth of the Halfway, on the east side of the bridge.
This year’s Paddle will take approximately two hours on the river, so participants must remember to bring snacks, water, sunscreen, rain gear, umbrellas, etc. We paddle rain or shine so bring extra clothes and an umbrella to change into later.
A shuttle bus will transport paddlers back to their vehicles at the Halfway River bridge.
If you would like to participate, but do not have a canoe, bring a life jacket and gear along and let us know at the registration desk. We will try to find an empty spot in a canoe for you. you can also post on the canoe swap to find a paddling partner or canoe ahead of time. This worked very well last year.
2011 Paddle for the Peace eco-dyed t-shirts, ball caps and bucket hats will be available for sale at the launch site.
PVEA (Peace Valley Environment Association) memberships also available.
